G H Patel College of Engineering & Technology (GCET) was established in 1996, one of the premier self-finance Institute of Gujarat State as per the norms of AICTE by Charutar Vidya Mandal trust. Currently the institute is running with eight (08) disciplines at under-graduate level and nine (09) at post graduate level. The institute has excellent infrastructural facilities with ultra-modern laboratories. The institute owns highly competent and dedicated pool off faculty members. According to the latest Times Engineering survey, GCET ranks 2nd position in top self-finance colleges of Gujarat and 59th in the country. GCET was affiliated to Sardar Patel University from the year 1996 to 2008 later on from the year 2008, Institute is affiliated to Gujarat Technological University. New admission from academic year 2020-21 are done under the Charutar Vidya Mandal University (CVMU).
Department of Electronics & Communication was started in 1997. Post Graduate courses were started in Communication Engineering and Embedded Systems in 2007 and 2013 respectively. Right from its inception it is continuously striving to impart quality education and promoting competitive spirit among students for academic excellence. The department has well equipped laboratories with good infrastructure and highly qualified as well as experienced faculties. The department has organized various International conferences, workshops, seminars for the benefit of engineering students, faculty members and professional engineers. Department received AICTE – MODROB grant for IoT & WSN laboratory, and R&D project grant worth rupees 20 lakhs from various agencies like GUJCOST and CSIR. The Department has been accredited by NBA for 6 years since 2015.
Internet of Things offers advanced connectivity of devices, systems, and services that goes beyond machine-tomachine communications and covers a variety of protocols, domains, and applications. This STTP covers the current Industry Trends in IoT which encompass a wide range of skills that are integral and necessary part of everyday business, day to day life or work environment. The Internet of Things (IoT) is the network of physical objects — devices, vehicles, buildings and other items embedded with electronics, software, sensors, and network connectivity that enables these objects to collect and exchange data. The Internet of Things allows objects to be sensed and controlled remotely across existing network infrastructure, creating opportunities for more direct integration of the physical world into computer-based systems, and resulting in improved efficiency, accuracy and economic benefit. When IoT is augmented with sensors and actuators, the technology becomes an instance of the more general class of cyber physical systems, which also encompasses technologies such as smart grids, smart homes, intelligent transportation and smart cities. Each thing is uniquely identifiable through its embedded computing system but is able to interoperate within the existing Internet infrastructure. Experts estimate that the IoT will consist of almost 50 billion objects by 2020. The hands on sessions and lectures are designed with interactive training and workshops which equip its participants with better practical understanding to develop an expertise.
